Basketball in Algeria

In addition to other ongoing ventures in North Africa, Global Sports Partners has placed a coach with the Nadi Basket Staoueli under-16 boys basketball team in Algiers, Algeria. In two years together, coach and team have achieved success on and off the court. The 2012-2013 season was completed with only two losses (by a combined 4 points) and a 2nd place finish in the city league. The recently completed 2013-2014 season saw the team go undefeated in the city league and advance to the quarterfinals in the National Cup Competition. Two players have been selected for the U-18 national team (#10 and #14 in the photo below); three players have been selected for the U-16 national team (#7, #8 and #11 below).

Though the team has been very successful, the focus has been on the process of basketball rather than the results of the games. The team has learned that diligence, perseverance, and hard work are necessary parts of becoming a strong and well-rounded basketball player. In addition to improving individual skills, the players have also worked on team strategies: spacing on the court, movement without the ball, and the fundamentals of man-to-man defense. This team illustrates how focusing on the process can lead to some exceptional results! Congratulations to these young gentlemen for their hard work and well-deserved success!

Previously in the country, GSP placed a men's professional basketball club coach and facilitated a camp for the under-16 girls national team. We look forward to future partnerships in Algeria!
